Tank Warranty Extensions
Over the next few years, hundreds of underground petroleum storage tanks within Maine will be reaching their 30 year expiration date. Double-walled Tanks that have reached their warranty deadline may be eligible for a 10 year extension if they meet specific requirements and the appropriate documentation is completed.
As Maine DEP certified tank installers and inspectors, Simard and Sons can assist you with determining if your tank is eligible for this ten year extension and then help complete the steps needed to make it happen.
Requirements of a tank warranty extension include:
- A passing annual inspection
- Integrity testing of tank interstitial space and piping
- Piping sumps and dispenser sumps must be in place and pass integrity tests
- Leak detection and overfill protection systems must be in place and operational
Registration for the warranty extension must be completed BEFORE the 30 year deadline as determined by the original tank installation/registration date which can be found on the tank DEP registration documents and the TankSmart (http://www.maine.gov/dep/waste/tanksmart/) online database. This means that all inspections, testing, and any required upgrades must be completed in advance of the deadline . If your tank is less than 2 years away from the 30 year anniversary, we recommend giving us a call so we can ensure that the potential upgrade work and documentation can be determined and executed well in advance.
